SuraLink ("the app," "we," "us") is built with a simple rule: we collect as little as possible, and what we do use stays on your device whenever we can manage it. This page explains exactly what happens to your data.
The recitation-practice feature uses your device's speech recognition to check what you recited against the real ayah text. This happens live, on your device (or via Apple's own on-device/cloud speech service) — the audio itself is never recorded, saved, or sent to SuraLink's servers, because SuraLink has no server that stores this at all. Only the recognized text is briefly compared locally to score your attempt.
The Qibla direction and prayer-times feature uses your device's location, with your permission, to calculate the direction to the Kaaba and today's prayer times for where you are. Your coordinates are sent to Aladhan (api.aladhan.com), a free public prayer-time calculation service, solely to retrieve those times — this is the only feature that sends any data off your device at all, and it's the minimum needed to get a real, location-accurate result. We don't store your location ourselves.
Your progress — memorized ayat, streak, quiz history, preferences, subscription status — is stored locally on your device only, using standard app storage. It is never uploaded to a SuraLink server, because none exists to receive it. Uninstalling the app deletes this data. There is no cloud sync or account recovery, because there is no account.
Subscription purchases are handled entirely by Apple's App Store (In-App Purchase) and processed through RevenueCat, a subscription-management service, to verify your purchase and grant access. SuraLink never sees or stores your payment details — Apple handles all billing directly. RevenueCat's own privacy practices are described at revenuecat.com/privacy.
Recitation audio is streamed live from established public Quran-audio providers (such as everyayah.com and QuranWBW) each time you tap play — it is not stored on our servers, because we don't run any. Word meanings are adapted from the Quranic Arabic Corpus (corpus.quran.com) with attribution.
SuraLink does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone, including children, since it collects none in the first place beyond what's described above (all of which stays on-device except the two exceptions noted).
